Young Harris Trip

Wow!!! What a weekend.

It all started out Thursday morning (15 April 04). We started to gather around 09:30 am at the Big K parking lot in Lexington. It was getting close to the time to leave when Jim and Gerri Wood comes driving in on each their new bike. After a quick hello George said it was time to leave, so off to Young Harris, Georgia we went. The temperature was pretty cold but that did not damper any of our spirits, as the ride progress the temperature started to rise. By the time we stopped in Anderson for lunch the weather had warmed up a lot. On the other side of Anderson, SC is where we started to get into the foot hills of South Carolina. Once we crossed over into Georgia the twisters got even better till we got to the town of Young Harris, the trip was a total of 207 miles.

Friday morning started out cold. As we started getting ready for the days ride, wiping down our bikes and getting gas before we knew it George was calling us together for our ride briefing as to what was planed for the day and where we were going. Right from the get go the road was full of turns, in fact that’s the way it was all that day, turn after turn. Just before lunch we were on the Cherohala Skyway and there on the side of the road was still some snow, not very much but snow in the middle of April? After lunch some of us decided to ride over to Deal’s Gap and ride the Dragons tail Curt & Sue Pratt and Cajun.

Saturday morning the weather was not as cold as it had been, and again it was eat breakfast, clean and fill up the bikes for the days ride. This morning we were headed for the West Family Restaurant for lunch then off to Babyland General Hospital (Cabbage Patch Kids). From there some of us went over to Helen, Georgia while the rest f the group went to Smithgall Woods Visitors Center.

Sunday morning most of us did not want to leave but knew that all good things must come to an end, so we set about packing the bikes for the trip back to Columbia. We road as a group most of the way till we came to the Interstate where we split up into two groups those that had to get home early and those that could enjoy the back roads going home.
