25-26 Sept 04
Ride Leader: Cajun
There was some concern as to the weather this weekend, whether we would get rained on or not, because of the hurricane coming. Well, both Saturday and Sunday turned out to be great riding weather. Saturday morning was somewhat overcast as we pulled into Hardee’s. We had 19 bikes and 23 people and 1 truck. There were 5 visitors (James & Amber, James & Lynn and Clarence) and also riding with the group for the first time on her new trike Lisa Woodell. Not long after we had pulled out, the skies cleared up and off we went to Savannah. Blocking was Jim Ballenger along with his wife Jen. We parked the bikes at the convention center on the SC side of the Savannah River and took a ferry across. As we got closer to the dock we could see some people waving from the ferry landing. It was Jim, Gerri, Johnny, Judy, Rick, Barb, Danny, Beth, George, and Betsy who had ridden up the night before. There were many sites to see on the River Walk and the waterfront. After lunch we met at 5:00pm and crossed the river on the Juliette Gordon Low ferry to where our bikes were parked. Lea led us over the high level bridge to the motel. Some of the group decided to ride around and see Savannah at night while others weathered the strong winds and visited Tybee Island. The rest stayed at the motel after eating at various restaurants around Savannah. Sunday morning we pulled out at 9:00am after everyone got breakfast and gassed up. There was some concern as to the weather, so it was decided not to go to Lone Star for lunch as planned and just take the same route back home. On the ride back there were 26 bikes and 33 people and 1 truck. At the last rest stop we were told that Jim’s birthday was Monday so we decided to end the ride at Krispy Cream Donut shop in Cayce for a donut birthday party for Jim. What a great group to ride with!! The fellowship and fun we had will not be forgotten, for you never know who will show up to ride and who you will meet on the ride or just where you will end up.
