7/26/08 - Ride to Santee (Lone Star BBQ)
13 bikes, 14 riders 175 miles (20 bonus miles)
Mike Griswold ride leader

12 bikes, met at I-20 exit 82 to ride a central SC run to Lone Star BBQ in Santee.
Scott and April joined us at Hwy 601/378 (Mr. Thomas P-Nut stand).
Most of us have been to Lone Star BBQ, so on the way, I took the group to a side trip through the Lone Star Community. This is the original location of the wood buildings (stores & post office) that were moved 15 miles to the Santee State Park Rd about 10 years ago. (Did you know that?)

This also gave us a ride to Weeks Landing and a lake road that Jessie used to live on. Pretty
Carolina back roads for sure.

After another great lunch at Lone Star we gassed at Santee (one of the few Chevron's around). We crossed Lake Marion on I-95 to then follow more back roads on the east side of the lake to meander back to Lugoff Sonic.

Using GPS (Griswold Pathfinder Service) we went through REMINI twice to collect bonus miles. We realized I had put us in a 10 mile loop when the same guy was cutting grass at his twin brother's house!!!!!!!
As we rode, I wondered who put the cypress swamp on the left this year. (4 LEFTS MAKE A CIRCLE, MIKE.)  But now we realized why Mr. Clyburn wants to build a hundred million dollar bridge from Lonestar to Remini,,,,, it's easy to get lost there! (If you build it, they will come???)

At a last gas stop in the back country, two little kids paid Scott 25 cents to sit on his bike. Even with Scott's new Harley Cup Holder,,,,,,,we thought it was too much. He gave them change.

Some people headed home from
Santee, some from Hwy 378, the rest got a good bike wash and Saturday shower for the last 15 miles to end the ride at Lugoff Sonic.

Thanks all who came,
Mike G
