The Rumblings

NEWSLETTER FOR STAR RIDERS COLUMBIA, SC
CHAPTER #124 February 18, 2008

Cajun called the meeting to order and welcomed guests and newcomers.  Ron Harrison rides a 2007 V-Star 1300 and Tim Harrison was there with his guest, Lynette.  He rides a 2000 Road King.  Amanda Siecinski was there with her father, Mark.  Cajun asked if anyone has a new set of wheels and Patrick has a new 2007 Midnight Venture Royal Star!

Lea reminded us all to bring Easter baskets to the next meeting for Sister Care.  We do the baskets for the children, who are the most helpless victims of domestic violence.

We are still waiting for the charter, but anticipate no problems as we had well over 20 signatures.  Cajun asked anyone who did not receive the Star Calendar to get with him after the meeting and he will give him or her the address to contact.  Star did not distribute them through national this year.

Lone Star had an awesome turnout! It was originally planned for just Florence, Beaufort and us, but we had 6 of the 8 SC chapters represented as well as Lumberton, NC and Savannah, GA represented.  There were over 50 bikes and 80 people there.  We will be doing this again in May, August and November and holding the meet and greets at Murray’s.  These meetings will engender closeness within the chapters and develop new friendships across the state.

Concord, NC is having a chapter signing in March.  We will be meeting up with Beaufort, so watch the message board for details.  Our group is the first chapter in SC and Cajun tries to make every signing possible.

Lea will be leading an overnighter to Cherokee, NC in June to see “Unto These Hills” and the “Wheels of Time” motorcycle museum the next day.  Let Lea know if you want to attend so she can make reservations at the Holiday Inn.  Watch the message board for details.

One of our charities is Camp Kemo.  It costs $500.00 a week to send a child.  We are entertaining ideas to get the money required, possibly a charity run.  Another idea is for members to contribute individually.  At around 30 members, if we each donate around $15.00, that would sponsor one child.  Cajun will talk to other groups at Saturday’s President’s meeting to get their involvement as well.   The ride from the Honda Shop to Camp Kemo is on June 8, and we hope to present the camp with our contribution then.

One day out of the week, usually Tuesday, riders can go to the camp and ride the children.  This is often the highlight of their week.  Be sure to have a full tank of gas, a full belly and an extra helmet!  Cajun talked about his involvement 10 years ago with a little girl at the camp.  She is now in remission from her leukemia and has a fiery temper to match her full head of red hair.  Patrick spoke of a little 6-year-old boy whose favorite thing about Camp Kemo is that he gets to be treated like a normal kid because all the other kids are just like him.  We urge our members to do what they can, because these kids may not be here next year.  Give Cajun any fund-raising ideas you come up with.  Mike Griswold suggested bringing items to meetings for silent auctions and donating half the proceeds to the camp.

Jim won the 50/50 drawing

Curt will lead Saturday’s mystery ride, probably to Arri’s in Aiken.  Check the board for details.

Scott plans to lead a ride to the Big Mo Drive-In in Monetta in June.  There should be a double feature and the food is good.  Be sure to bring a radio to tune in the movie.

Jim talked about the annual Mid-Atlantic Star-B-Que to be held in Cornelius, NC August 15th and 16th. It should be like a mini Star Days with vendors, souvenirs and games.  Go to the national sight for packets and reservations and keep an eye on the message board for more details as the date nears.

The meeting was adjourned and we all went into the parking lot to see Patrick’s new ride!

Respectfully Submitted,
Andrea Collum
