THE RUMBLINGS

The April ride to Deal's Gap was a GREAT success. George Parson's did a wonderful job of leading us on the greatest roads that we would all enjoy. There was not a sad moment in everyone's mind, but there were tears of joy to see all the beautiful scenery that South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina had to offer. We went to such places as Deals Gap of course, Field in the Woods, Helens, Alexanders, Brasstown Bald, and many others. What a wonderful trip.
We presented an award to Gail Snow for taming the Dragon. The Dragons Tail at Deal's Gap almost won, but with Jeff Snow's keen driving and a momentary stop for Gail to stop and collect herself on the Dragon's Tail, they proceeded to finish the Dragon. Since they had stopped about a mile and a half up the course on the way back, Gail did not have an opportunity to get her T-Shirt from the gift store at the bottom of the trail, so an award of a T-Shirt was in order. The T-Shirt reads "I survived the DRAGON" - "X is where the DRAGON almost won! . We had our very own NURSE BETTY take care of medical needs and of course refreshments on the trip, but while on the Dragon, we got to see why she is deserving of being our very own TIN STAR. Nurse Betty (AKA Elaine) tended to a girl on a Street Racer that laid her bike down on the Dragon and dis-located her shoulder. The girl received the best of care and was OK, but that is due to Nurse Betty being there.
We had an absolutely wonderful time during the trip. The Hotel at Young Harris was very accommodating and the rooms were very clean. Thanks goes out from the Starriders to Patricia at the Young Harris Hotel for making our stay so enjoyable,
If anyone would like one of the extra T-Shirtsfrom last month, contact Gerri Wood @ 749-4449. The cost for the T-shirts is $12 for Short Sleeve and $20 for Long Sleeve.
We had a visitor this month from the Orangeburg Yamaha Dealership (Greg). Greg has invited everyone to stop by his facility in Orangeburg and would like to sponsor one of our monthly rides to start off from his location in Orangeburg. What a great deal. Greg said that he would bring a Warrior to the next meeting for everyone to drool over, since he brought a 2002 Midnight Venture this month. MAN WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BIKE! I think Terry is still drooling at the thought of putting more chrome on Greg's bike.
Everyone that rides
with the Star Touring & Riding Association Charter #124 was asked to
complete a Motorcycle Waiver and Release Form and bring it to the next meeting.
Not all ride waivers were turned in at the meeting and there is one major rule
strictly enforced in order to ride with the Star Touring & Riding
Association Chapter #124 Columbia Starriders, and that is the Motorcycle Waiver.
The waiver must be completed and given to a club officer before you can
participate in a riding event. It is a standard waiver that must be
executed by each and every member of the organization and protects the parties
involved to include the rider. This is an annual requirement of the
Association. We noticed there were a few regular members that couldn't
make it to the meeting, but remember there is always next month. If you
would like to have the waiver sent to your E-Mail address, so you can print it
out and bring it with you to the next meeting, contact Terry Jones. The
next meeting is on June 17th, please make sure your waiver is completed and you
are ready to ride.
The monthly 50/50 drawing the club uses in lieu of creating club dues was won
this month by George Parsons. It was either that he is lucky, just bought
MaryAnn a new V-Star 1100, or WE PAID HIM FOR THE GREAT RIDE TO DEALS GAP.
The 50/50 share this month was $90.00.
Our monthly ride will always be the Saturday following our monthly meeting. This next Saturday is the 25th and the ride is going to be led by David Totten. The ride is going to be about 180 miles and of course it will be fantastic back country roads and a GREAT time with Dave leading. Meet at Columbia Power Sports at 9 a.m. and be ready to pull out at 9:30 a.m. Of course as our Sponsor, they will have coffee and donuts waiting for us.
Don't forget, if you would like to sponsor a ride contact Lowell Thomas to let him know you want a turn to lead us on your favorite roads, or a great route you have traveled. Remember all rides will use the 50/50 rule. In other words, > 50 degrees and < 50% chance of rain. Please use The Weather Channel as your guide. (SAFETY FIRST)
