CHAPTER #124 - November 19th, 2001


Our monthly meeting was held at Captain George's in Cayce.  We almost had a full room at the meeting this month.  Some of our regular members must have been out riding and recruiting for new members; because, guess what - there were 10 new faces at the meeting.  YEP count them 10 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) New Members.  Next month if you were planning on meeting the new members you be able to meet at the Christmas Get Together at the Long Horn Steak House on Gervais Street in Downtown Columbia, which is in the Vista for you locals.  We will have a nice dinner instead of our formal monthly meeting at Capt Georges.  Well by now I guess you are curious about who our TEN new members are.  Join me in welcoming David Smith, Dusty Rhodes, Kallie Ridenour, Doug Burdick, Dale Coeyman Cherrie Coeyman, Bill Reiber, Patricia Reiber, Ken Caudle, and Beth Caudle.    We are so very happy to have them and hope to see more of them in the future.   As usual it was another monthly meeting with great fellowship, close friends and good food. We continue to grow every month as every close family does.  

The monthly 50/50 drawing the club uses in lieu of creating club dues was won this month by Judy Frick. The 50/50 share this month was $60.00.  We know what Judy might buy with her new found wealth, it will probably be more angels.  For those that don't know Judy, she always wears an angel whenever you see her.  Next time you see Judy, ask to see what angel she is wearing that day.   Tradition keeps showing that new members or new people seem to have a better chance of winning the 50/50.  We have met and rode with Judy on several Occasions, but this was the first meeting she was able to attend - and she won.  Maybe that's why some of the regular members haven't made it to the meeting in a couple months, they want to increase their chance of winning the 50/50.  I have a better idea to increase chances of winning the 50/50, buy more tickets.

The members present in October got a chance to vote on a new club business cards and this month Jim Wood was given the template of the winning format to have the cards made for the club.  It was almost unanimous which card the club will be able to hand out to other bike owners they know or happen to meet when they are out riding.  The new club card will be reproduced in bulk quantity to provide to members, for handing out to acquaintances during your travels.    

The roster was passed around to place a new T-shirt order for the club T-shirts.  There will also be an opportunity to order T-shirts again in January because there were only 10 T-shirts ordered.  Jim Wood is checking on the minimum order quantity and will hopefully be able to have the T-shirts ordered here in January.  The T-Shirts have been a great success every time they were ordered.  We had 2 T-shirts left and they went so fast at the meeting, you would have thought it was a fire sale.  Make sure you come to the January meeting so that we can get your T-shirt order.  Remember there are long sleeve for the cooler months and 4 colors to choose from Tan, White, Gray, & Black.  which come in all sizes for short sleeve and long sleeve.

The elected officers will take office on 1 January 2002.  They will have plenty to do and hard work before them ensuring the high standards set before them by prior club officers.  The club members were confident enough in the newly elected officials abilities and demonstrated leadership that they agreed by vote to support them.

Wayne Wilkes the Owner of Columbia Power Sports was not able to get the 2002 Road Warrior to the meeting for us to play with because he hadn't got delivery from Yamaha by the time we had our monthly meeting.  Wayne will let us know when he gets delivery.  

George Parson gave his report on his planning of the ride the club hopes to make in April 2002 to Deal's Gap.  George and Mary Ann Parson's made all preliminary arrangements and have done some extensive planning on the route, sights, and where we will stay.  The ride he will lead us on to Deal's Gap and North Georgia for the weekend trip promises to be a great time.  The planned trip will be April 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st.  The complete itinerary is provided below for you to make plans on attending.  By show of hands from the members present, there is going to be great attendance. We are estimating 20 - 30 rooms needed, so if you want one of the rooms, call 356-9883 or E-mail Betty Jones bjjones@sc.rr.com and she will ensure your reservation.

DEAL'S GAP TRIP

APRIL 18, 19, 20, AND 21, 2002

LEAVE 12:00 NOON ON THURSDAY 18 APRIL FROM THE K-MART PARKING LOT BEHIND THE UNION 76 STATION IN LEXINGTON

MOTEL

ROOM RATE:

$55.00 per night.  All rooms are clean and nice (recent remodeling) on the ground floor but they have only four (4) smoking rooms.  Plan on three days for the hotel stay.

FOOD:

Restaurant at the Motel – Breakfast Buffet is $4.25 plus drink and tax.  Lunch and Dinner Buffet is $6.25 plus drink and tax.

 There are also other restaurants in the area within riding distance.

·         Leave at noon on April 18th for hotel.

·         Ride to Deal's Gap on the 19th.

·         Ride some of the North Georgia roads on the 20th.

·         Ride home on the 21st.

This trip is shaping up to be as much fun as our trip to the Blueridge parkway we had in August, so make plans on attending and contact Betty as soon as you know you can attend.

Don't forget, if you would like to sponsor a ride such as one for the month of January or February contact Lowell Thomas to let him know you want a turn to lead us on your favorite roads, or a great route you have traveled.   Remember all rides will use the 50/50 rule. In other words, > 50 degrees and < 50% chance of rain and now possibly snow.   As we have all been noticing the weather is changing with the season and with it getting cooler please use The Weather Channel as your guide. (SAFETY FIRST)

We have another opportunity to all get together for a ride and show our club spirit and good tidings for a Toys for Tots event on December 2nd.  The club members that want to go to this event need to meet at Denny's at 9:30 on N. Main St in Columbia, and we will ride together to the event that starts at the Pepsi Plant.  This will give us a chance to ride together at the event in the same group through Columbia.  We recently had several members ride in a Charity Food Run and we were scattered throughout the 1000+ bikes.  Please make sure to bring a new unwrapped toy to the event if you would like to donate a toy. 

CLUB MEMBERS SHOULD NOT BE THE ONLY PEOPLE ALLOWED TO HAVE FUN—So, please join us at our next monthly meeting held at Captain George's in Cayce on January 21st, 2002. It will start promptly at 7pm.  For December since we are not having a regular meeting, please join us at Long Horn Steak House on December 17th we are meeting at 7 p.m. and will have the room on the second floor to ourselves.  The room seats about 40 but since we are a close group, there is always room for more.  All non-members are welcome to join in attendance.
