CHAPTER #124 October 18, 2004

The meeting was called to order by Vice President Rick Floyd and he welcomed everyone.  We had 5 visitors present and a total of 66 present at the meeting. 

Greg Fleeman told us about the March of Dimes Ride last weekend and said the 50/50 drawing was for $480.00.  He said the turn out was not as good as they had hoped for but it was a good ride for a good cause. 

Several riders went to Myrtle Beach and a good time was had by all!

Saturday is a club ride being led by Rick Floyd.  Meet at Krispy Kreme at 8:30 a.m. with kick stands up at 9:00 a.m. headed to Charleston.  Rick said they would ride the back roads and park in the covered garage at the market.  The garage fee is $4.50 for 4 hours per bike and they will not allow more than one bike per parking space.  There will be a group picture taken before everyone is “on their own” to look around and eat lunch.  They plan to leave Charleston between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.  and some have planned to ride around the battery before heading back to Columbia.  There are lots of places to shop so bring money!!!!!

November 6 George Parson will be leading a ride to Hammer SC, Pedro Land or better known as South of the Border.  There is a lot to see and do there so you will be on your own until the ride back to Columbia.  Watch the website for more details.

Jim Ballenger will be leading a ride in November to Edisto Gardens and Blackville SC to Dukes Bar B Que.  Watch the website for more details.

The Christmas Party is December 20 at Bethel United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on highway 321 in Blythewood.  Your $10.00 per person must be paid no later than December 6th so we can give an accurate head count to the cater Sweet Magnolias.  If you need to mail in your $10.00 please mail it to Judy Frick, 1250 Frick Road, Blythewood, SC  29016.  We had a great time last year and this year will be even better so mark your calendar and plan to attend.

Wayne with Abate talked with us about their group and how they lobby to get laws changed to help protect the motorcyclist.  They meet at the VFW on Cedarcrest (across from the Lexington Bowling Alley on Highway 1) in Lexington at 7:30 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.   They are also sponsoring a spooks and spokes Poker Run on Saturday, October 30.  Registration is at 2247 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia, first bike out 6:00 p.m. last bike out at 7:30 p.m. last bike in 9:30 p.m.

Cost is $15.00 per hand, Riders with no hand $5.00.  There will be a 50/50 raffle, costume contest, door prize drawings every hour starting at 8:00 p.m. and Live music by Last Run.  All cards may be drawn at the VFW Post 8738, 424 Cedarcrest Dr., Lexington, SC.  For more information contact:  Lawrence at 803-939-0820 or Wayne at 803-781-4284.

Larry told us that Fort Jackson has a new safety officer and he is clamping down!!  You must wear at least a ¾ helmet and your ankles must be covered, you must have a reflective vest and full gloves when entering the base. 

Progressive Insurance has been able to beat most insurance rates.  They specialize in recreational vehicles which include motorcycles.  Susan Martinez will be glad to talk with you about the insurance and they will give you free quotes.

Nominations were accepted for officers of Starriders Chapter 124 for the year 2005.

All officers that currently serve have said they are willing to serve another term with the exception of Secretary, Nedra Smith. 

The motion was made and seconded that we keep all the same officers with the exception of the Secretary position which are as follows:

Motions were made and seconded that Betsy Gooch be the Secretary for Starriders Chapter 124

George Gooch has agreed to be the ride coordinator and Cajun will remain the Webmaster.

Cajun presented Billy Knight with a license plate for all his help with rides.  Billy has gone on rides with the group and taken his truck and trailer in case of any problems.  His license plate reads:

The drawing this week for ½ of the $200.00 collected and the winner was Debra Jackson.
