STARRIDER'S

RULES FOR RIDERS

1.     Check the Club web site for ride data prior to the scheduled ride.  The Club has a 50/50 Rule: which means if there is 50 percent chance for rain the Ride Leader will call off the ride.  Also if the temperature will be 50 degrees or lower the Ride Leader will call off the ride.  The Ride Leader will post the time and place for the start and where lunch is planned and an estimate of the length of the ride in miles and time.

2.  Arrive at the start location EARLY.  You need to be there in time to get the Ride Leaders instructions and allow the group to leave on schedule.

3.  Arrive with a full tank of gas.

4.  Know how to ride in a staggered formation.  Practice the 2-second rule while riding in staggered formation.  This will give 2-seconds between you and the bike ahead of you and in your lane.  At 50 miles per hour you will have enough distance to ride safe and avoid problems.

5.  Watch your fellow riders and be sure to slow down if the rider behind you gets separated and be sure the rider is able to see the group and catch up.

6.  It is important to maintain a tight formation and avoid a breakup and letting cars in the group.  If someone is leaving too much space between riders, a rider in the back can move up and close the space.  It is important to not let the formation become any longer than necessary.

7.  Pay attention to all signals from the Ride Leader and/or the rider in front of you and pass each signal on to the rider behind you.

8.  Should you need to leave the group at anytime before the end of the ride, please let the Ride Leader know in advance so he will not spend time looking for a missing rider.

9.  If you do plan to leave the group before the end of the ride don’t ask the Ride Leader for directions.  You should make your plans prior to joining the ride.  The Ride Leader is concentrating on completing his planned route and not on how to design a ride for you.

10. At each REST STOP that have facilities be prepared to empty your bladder and top off your gas tank.  You need to keep up with having enough gas to complete the ride so the group does not have to make a stop just for you.
