THE RUMBLINGS
NEWSLETTER FOR
STAR RIDERS COLUMBIA, SC
CHAPTER #124 - September 16th, 2002
What a great meeting. Chatter, bikes, chatter, rides, chatter, trips,
chatter, fun, what more could anyone want from a meeting with smiling faces
without being on a bike and riding in the wind. We would like to welcome
all of our guest to the meeting. We had 8 new prospects at the meeting
this month and definitely would like to see more of them. So, welcome,
Gerald, Frank, Ed, Kevin, Kelli, Hal, Lee, and Debbie. If you haven't been
to a meeting lately, you might want to attend, there are many new faces for you
to see and many new bikes to admire (OK drool over).
We took additional T-Shirt orders this month; so if you were unable to attend the meeting and would like a T-shirt, contact Gerri Wood at mawood01@sc.rr.com or Phone 782-4449. The cost for the T-shirts is $12 for Short Sleeve and $20 for Long Sleeve. You must specify your size and color. We will also be getting a price for the Star Kids T-Shirt sizes.
The September ride to the Blue Ridge and into Boone was a great success. Lowell lead our Iron Butt riders on some great roads while Michael lead the Soft Butt riders on some scenic roads as well. A great time was had by all and even though the weather was not as sunny as everyone would have liked, the ride was great and the fellowship plenty. Talk, Talk, Talk, there was already talk and discussion regarding going on another group ride. If you missed the last couple trips and would like to go with a group on a ride for a weekend, you have found the right bunch of people.
What a great trip Michael Smathers planned for everyone to Boone and the Blue Ridge Parkway. GREAT JOB!
On the 5th of October there is an open invitation to the Starriders to join the Upstate Chapter in helping with another new chapter forming in Hendersonville. Meet at the Hendersonville dealership at 11:00.
The Sumter county Fair is going on this next week and invites everyone to attend. It is always a good time at the county fair, and this year we have one of our very own members on the board for the fair. Way to go Nick Nero; we're sure he has covered every angle for you to have a great time.
The monthly 50/50 drawing the club uses in lieu of creating club dues was won this month by Lowell Thomas. Must have had something to do with his Iron Butt Ride; payment maybe? Congratulations Lowell. The 50/50 share this month was $80.00.
Our monthly ride will always be this Saturday and will cover about 200 miles. We are meeting at the Food Lion on Broad River Road. We will be riding to the Aiken area and enjoying some great country back roads. If you have never been on one of Lowell's rides through the back roads of South Carolina, you have missed something special. When does Lowell have the time to find all these roads?
Don't forget, if you would like to sponsor a ride contact Lowell Thomas to let him know you want a turn to lead us on your favorite roads, or a great route you have traveled. Remember all rides will use the 50/50 rule. In other words, > 50 degrees and < 50% chance of rain. Please use The Weather Channel as your guide. (SAFETY FIRST)
CLUB MEMBERS SHOULD NOT BE THE ONLY PEOPLE ALLOWED TO HAVE FUN—So, please join us at our next monthly meeting held at Captain Georges Seafood Restaurant on Knox Abbott Drive in Cayce, SC.
