Vice President Rick Floyd introduced Meredith Lanier from the March of Dimes. Meredith told us about the March of Dimes ride on Saturday, October 16 with a rain day on the 17th. The registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with the first bike out at 11:00 and the last bike out at noon. If you pre-register the fee is $35.00 and $10.00 for an additional rider. They will meet a Jillians in the vista and the fee includes a pin, lunch and entertainment. Last year they had 150 riders and this year their goal is to have 400 riders. If you pre-register you will be given a T-shirt. March of Dimes is the only organization that helps to fight birth defects in pre-mature babies. She also told us about two bike nights that they are sponsoring. The first is Thursday September 23rd from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Willie’s in the Vista and the second is at Jillians in the Vista from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on October 7th. She put several brochures on the back table with a lot of information in them about March of Dimes.
President Jim Wood welcomed everyone to the meeting and acknowledged 3 visitors. Welcome Dana Johnson, Butch Thomas and Beverly Jackson, we hope you will want to join us every month!
Whitney and some of her colleagues from the Honda dealership were present to offer the Starriders some specials. The will do a same day oil or tire change (as long as it is not a special order tire) and say they will not be beat on prices. If you find it cheaper somewhere else then ask for the General Manager and he will meet or beat the price. They are open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday – Saturday.
They also offered a special 15% off. If you spend $100.00 with them they will honor a 15% discount on your next purchase as a one-time deal and then 10% after that.
On December 12th at 2:00 p.m. they will sponsor the 4th annual VET ride to benefit the Dorn VA hospital. There are posters at the back for you to pick up and display.
They will be opening a new store around November 1 close to the Flying J right off I-20 between exits 68 & 70. It will be a large and very nice store and will carry men and women’s apparel as well as accessories and bikes.
They also have a riders club (HRCA) that has a ride once a month. You must ride a Honda to join the club but all bikes can ride the rides. Their next ride is October 17th to Lake Lure, they will be leaving from the Honda store and you can get more information from the website www.carolinahonda.com.
Welcome back to Shane Coats. Those of you who are new to the group and have not met Shane have heard us talk about him while he has been gone to Afghanistan for the last 3-½ months. Shane thanked everyone for their postcards and emails while he was gone; he said it meant a great deal to him to have the support of this club. Shane we are so glad that you are back with us and appreciate what you did for us during your time overseas.
Ray Kitchens has boots!!! If you are interested in men and or women’s boots for riding or just for looking good, Ray is the man to see. There is information on the back table with his phone number.
Cajun reports that the group will meet at Hardees at exit 115 and I-26 this Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. with kick stands up at 9:30 a.m. Don’t forget your helmets!!!
October rides will be October 9 to Abbeville to eat at Yoder’s Country Kitchen and October 23 to Charleston for seafood. Watch the web for more details.
Three months ago there was discussion about changing our meeting place and that the officers would check out some other locations. When Jim posted information and ask for feedback he didn’t get much, just a few emails. Several said they didn’t come for the food but for the fellowship. He said that Captain George’s has been working hard to keep out business. The group voted to put the issue to bed! We will continue to meet at Captain George’s the third Monday of each month.
Congratulations to Joey Smith who won the drawing tonight with $92.50 which was half of the $185.00 collected.
Next month we will begin collecting $10.00 per person for reservations for the Christmas Party that will be held at our regular meeting time, Monday December 20th. The party will again be held in the fellowship hall of Beulah United Methodist Church in Blythewood. Sweet Magnolias from Pelion will be our caterers for the evening.
Ride safe and we look forward to seeing you again on October 18th.
